The Harm in Collecting Seashells

My seashell postage stamps were designed to raise awareness of the harm that is created from collecting seashells on the beach. Shells are a vital natural resource for coastal animals, as “they provide materials for birds’ nests, a home or attachment surface for algae, sea grass, sponges and a host of other microorganisms. Fish use them to hide from predators, and hermit crabs use them as temporary shelters,” according to the Washington Post. The abundance of seashells has diminished over many years due to tourists who visit the beach during the summer and collect them, so it is imperative that we stop this cycle to save and replenish this natural resource for coastal animals.

Fossil Shell Design

I wanted to give each shell a fossil feel by only illustrating the outline and specific details of that shell. These natural beauties have many details that often go unnoticed because of their pale color, so using a bright eccentric color palette gives an accurate portrayal of seashells.
